Special Arab Parliamentarians Conference on Population and Development

The Arab parliamentarians’ meeting held in Cairo during the period (10–12 / June) included the committees of population and development in the Arab legislative and parliaments Councils, National population councils, non-governmental organizations and institutions, delegates of the League of Arab States and the representatives of the Arab parliamentarians Union in Damascus.
The opening ceremony was held in the peoples’ council Hall under the patronage of Dr. Ahmad Fathi Srour, - the Head of the Council- , next to him on the main platform sat their excellencies, Secretary –General of the Forum, Chairperson of the Central Council of the International Union for family planning, the Under Secretary of the League of Arab States, and the representative of the UNFPD in Cairo.
All delegations, number of ministers and ambassadors, members of peoples and consultative Egyptian Councils representatives of the non-governmental organizations and institutions, representative of the youth sector, press and media people, representatives ceremony , Nile News channel broadcasted the ceremony live.
The resident representative of the UNFPD in Cairo stressed the role of the fund in executing the action program of Cairo conference on the population and development for the year 1994 . He also assured that the fund is proud of the active role, the Arab parliamentarians committees and the other establishments in the civil committees proud of the role and the active participation in sustaining the developmental and prosperity march in the Arab countries especially the efforts achieved by the General Secretariat of the Forum of (FAAPPD) in executing Cairo Conference on the population and development’s Action plan and the resolutions or recommendations of the parliamentarians and other Forums of the same concern.
· Dr. Arafat Al-Hadmy (Palestine) the regional executive committees Vice president for the Arab world division of the International Union for family planning has welcomed the Cairo meeting as a blessed step that aims to upgrade the population and development issues in the Arab world emphasizing on his confidence in the role of Parliaments Councils representatives in setting new legislations that serve the development issue in the Arab world based on the resolutions and recommendations of this forum wishing success and harmony for the conference.
· The secretary-General of the Forum and the Chairperson of the conference, Mr. Marwan El-Hmoud in his speech urged all the parliamentarians to act a quick dialogue in this important meeting as a pre-step in order to put the population and development issues in the top of the Arab Legislatives agenda of priorities .
· His Excellency the Secretary-General, Deputy of the League of Arab States, Dr. Nour El-Deen Hashad presented a number of paradoxes and priorities to activate shared Arab population action in the context of global variables full of risks and challenges emphasizing the social and cultural youth generation as a basic element in developing and making the future of the Arab societies , due to this , great efforts should be adopted to prepare youth and to enable them developmentally by making available chances to take care of them and facilitate maternity services and guarantee their rights .
· Dr Ahmad Fathi Srour the Head the Egyptian Peoples’ Council’s speech, the patron of the conference dealt with the population case and the necessity to be on the top list of interests of the parliamentarians and the consultative councils emphasizing on the importance of legislation protection for many sides related to the population problem and the necessity to stabilize the basic principals of maternity , family , childhood, youth, elderly and women protection to enhance the role of women in society.
· The regional Director of the International Planned Parenthood Federation -Tunisia- Dr. Mohammad Kamel and the Executive Director of the Union Dr. Tawfeeq Al-Deeb awarded His Excellency Prof. Ahmad Fathi Srour the armor of the Union at the End of the opening Ceremony.
