The Third Arab Meeting of Africa and The Arab States Parliamentarians Forum was held in Damascus on 2nd Nov 02 under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Abed El-Qader Qadoura, Chairman of the Syrian Lower House, The Arab parliamentarian Union 2002 and the General Secretariat of the Forum and with the follow-up of the CSTs Team of the Arab States in Amman and the.
Resident Representative of the UNFPA, in the Arab capitals, and the International Union for family planning / division of the Arab World as a partner in the general Secretariat of the Forum.
The opening session was held in the Syrian Peoples’ Council under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Abed El-Qader Qadoura, Chairman of the People’ Council, in the presence of the Secretary- General of the Forum H.E. Mr. Marwan El-Hmoud, and a number of their excellencies, Ministers of the Arab Syrian Region, H.E. Dr. Tawfeeq El-Deeb Chairman of the regional Council of the Arab World regions in the international union for family Planning, of the regional Executive Committee the regional director.
H.E. Mr. Nour El-Deen Boshoug, the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliamentarian Union in Damascus, H.E Dr. Mustafa Ben-Zen , the resident representative of the UNFPA, in Damascus. Their Excellencies, chairman of the Arab international relation committee , chairman and members of the environment committee in the Syrian Peoples’ Council , Their Excellencies the Arab States Ambassadors in Syria , chairman and members, volunteer corps, important association, representatives of the international organizations in Damascus, and also representatives of the media attended the opening ceremony.
The opening speeches represented a ground for starting this Arab meeting since H.E. the chairman, Mr. Abed El-Qader Qadoura that, the focus on the youth and woman enablement in this meeting comes on the right and appropriate time. He also emphasized that Syria is still working with the Arab for the sake of the Arab solidarity and attitudes coordination and H.E. then pointed out to H.E. President Bashar El-Assad through the speech that took place between H.E. and the American delegate who visited Syria a few days before the meeting in which he mentioned that talking about peace is not enough anymore unless priorities methods and agenda to indicate this peace is obtained.
The Secretary-General H.E. Marwan El-Hmoud indicated that interlocution made on Arab Youth case in Damascus meeting is based on a scientific research base and a realistic study set by the General Secretariat of the FAAPPD, H.E. honored the Arab Syrian Republic represented in its peoples and also the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliamentarian Union /Division of the Arab World for their efforts in bringing this meeting into success.
Through his speech, the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliamentarian union in Damascus, expressed the importance of the meeting which was made distinguished by a number of factors, which were represented in the location of the meeting / Al- Fayha’ which is facing the hardest challenges under the leadership of the young president His Excellency Dr. Bashar El-Assad which makes it a necessity for the serious work in all aspects in-order-to facilitate all factors of confrontation and resistance.
H.E. Dr Mustafa Ben Zein, the resident representative of the UNFPA in Damascus, indicated that this meeting is being held in time where a serious work towards achieving desired goals on the way of upgrading the Arab individual.
Whereas H.E. Dr. Tawfeeq El-Deeb, chairman of the Arab World Division of the International Union for family planning indicated the role of the region which includes a pretty number of the Family Planning Organizations in the Arab World to support the Reproductive Health Programs and its services especially in the Woman and Youth domains. He also expressed the happiness of his region and himself for the cooperation in having and making this meeting a success.
After the Opening Ceremony and the speeches of the participated delegates, the meeting was continued in Sham Hotel and elected.
Al El-Ali / member of the Peoples’ Council, Chairman of the Session. H.E. Mr. Marwan El-Hmoud the Secretary-General, of the FAAPPD report that included a preview of the Forum works and activities during the previous period, later on, H.E. Mr. Tawfeeq Esaran Chairman of the Family Planning Committee in Lebanon submitted the main work sheet “Population in The Arab World” in which he presented a demographic preview which discussed the age structure and the Population distribution , birth and death indicators , the population growth rates and its role in the economical development H.E. Mr. Eseran has emphasized on the importance of adopting adequate and clear population policies with limited goals applicable for measurement in order to draw adequate population policies based on a precise data base for the purpose of integrating the population variables within the national development plans and projects.
